Chala Wari

The tradition of Wari ( Vaaree ) is more than 700 to 800 years old. The Wari (Vaaree) is a pilgrimage (Yatra) carried out by the Warkaris who are worshipers of Lord Vitthal (also known as Vithoba). The ones who go on this type of Wari or pilgrimage are called Warkaris.

These devotees carry out this religious movement associated with Saints and Gurus like Dnyanshwar, Namdev, Chokhamela, Eknath, and Tukaram, Gadge Maharaj.

This Bhakti movement is a walk done in India in the state of Maharashtra, which is around 240-250km for 21 days from Dehu and Alandi to ‘unite’ with their beloved Lord Vithoba and Rakhumai in Pandharpur in Sholapur district. It is an annual procession where the Warkaris march for 21 days and complete their journey and reach Pandharpur on the auspicious day of Ashadhi Ekadashi.

Four processions take place in the months of Chaitra (March-April), Ashadh (June-July), Kartik (October-November), and Magh (January-February) according to the Marathi calendar. Of these, the Ashadhi Ekadashi Wari is the most popular one.
